RIOTING FRUIT PICKERS FREE-FOR-ALL IN TOWN VICTORIAN DISTURBANCE (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. March 13, 2 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 13. Shots were fired by the police and fire hoses were used in an attempt to subdue 500 rioting fruit pickers in Redcliffs. For more than two hours police, townspeople and blockholders struggled with the pickers. It is believed that a brawl among several pickers led to a riot and a general fight began. At one stage 2000 persons were struggling in the streets. The firing of shots and heavy streams oi water from the hoses dispersed the mou.
