■ FARM LIVING CONDITIONS MONEY FOR IMPROVEMENT A WAIROA REQUEST (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A statement to the effect that . living conditions on some farms were" nothing more than tragic, was made by the Hon. F. Langstone, Minister" of Lands, in reply to a request made to him in Wairoa by the president of the Wairoa Farmers' Unior-., r.lr. A. T. Carroll, that financial assistance should be given to farmers in the district to provide accommodation for farm workers. "We often talk about slums in the cities, but I know of slums in the country too," added the Minister. ■ln making the request Mr. Carroll stated that he understood the Government was prepared to assist farmers in that direction, and there were a number in the district who would . appreciate such assistance very much, • and so enable them to attain- some permanency in regard to farm hands. Their difficulty was in getting the ready cash to carry out the work. The Minister stated that the situation was frought with many difficulties. The job was such a big one . that it took a long time to find a satisfactory solution. The question of accommodation on farms had been considered by the Government. . but it had not yet come to any deci- , sion. "We know that it is needed, and II think we will have to adopt some ' scheme of farm finance," concluded the Minister.
