THEFT FROM “PAUPER”

CHICAGO, .Tan. 21. Otto Freitag saw the folly of trying to keep things up his sleeve. Last October 9 when he became dizzy and collapsed on a street, he asserted somebody took £2420 hidden in the lining of his coat sleeve. Authorities discovered that Freitag had obtained £215 in relief money since August. 1935. Yesterday Judge Justin F. McCarthy sentenced him to a year in the workhouse and 4s and costs for relief fraud and ordered him to make £2OO restitution. Freitag said he would pay it gladly—if he could get the £2420 back.
