Mr. E. E. Anderssen, Government entymologist for the Union of South Africa, who has been spending a holiday at Edgecumbe, Bay of Plenty, has left Auckland on his return to Pretoria.

Mr. A. Taylor, news editor of the Madras Mail, accompanied by Mrs. Taylor, arrived at Auckland by the Rangitata from England. Mr. Taylor is on furlough and is now on the way back to India. Still enjoying good health despite his years is Mr. G. L. Plested, Napier, who* celebrated his ninetieth birthday on Saturday. Mr. Plested arrived in the Dominion 65 years ago and, with the exception of a few years spent m Australia, ha 9 spent the greater part of that time in the Dominion. . Mr. A. F. Moncur, MP. for Rotorua, accompanied by Mrs. Moncur and Mrs. Lowry, wife of Mr. L. G. Lowry, M.P. for Otaki, arrived at Gisborne last evening from Rotorua, having travelled via the East Coast scenic highway. The visitors left Gisborne at midday for Wairoa, where they will join the Hon. F. Langstone. Commander W. H. Bremner, R.N (retired), of Northumberland, Englang, is a passenger by the liner Strathallan, which is visiting New Zealand. Commander Bremner, who is making the round voyage in the vessel from England, served in New Zealand from 1930 to 1933, when he was attached to the Naval Office, Wellington. Sir Harry Twyford, immediate past Lord Mayor of London, who is now revisiting the Dominion, had a narrow escape last year from death in an air crash in Germany. After the German coup in Czechoslovakia, he organised a scheme for the assistance of Czech refugees and raised £375,000. He was on his way to Prague to attend to the distribution of this money and just missed Hying in a machine whose crash resulted in 20 deaths.
