CATTLE DISEASE SPREAD
CAPETOWN. Jan. 20. Government officials have discovered that an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease at Pilgrim's Rest, which necessitated the shooting of 1400 cattle, was caused by a native chief who dug up an old infected carcase and "planted" il in the krall of one of his enemies during the night. The Government party arrived just in time to prevent a fight.
