TRACK AND STABLE

THREE-YEAR-OLD JUMPER SULEIMAN FOR TRENTHAM THOMPSON HIS MISSION By “Trenton” Wynardo, who finished out of a place at Taranaki, is an interesting addition to the hurdling ranks. He is a three-year-old colt, and horses of that age may not start over fences till February 1. Last season Wild Irishman took on hurdling as a three-year-old in May and quickly showed promise at the game, but he unfortunately broke a leg at Riccarton last August and was lost to the turf. Wynardo is a bay son of The Ace and the Glen Albyn mare Wynette, who does not appear to have raced. His only success to date was in one of the Avondale two-year-old races last season, when carrying the colours of his breeder, Mr. R. M. Taylor, of To Aroha. He is now owned in New Plymouth by Mr. L, O’Neill, and it is doubtful if such an astute trainer as H. Gray would have put him to jumping so soon if he had not shown an aptitude for the game. Clessamor Sold Clessamor has been purchased by Mr. A. Lile, of New Plymouth, and he will probably be put to jumping. Mr. Lile formerly owned Omeo, Illuminate, Tigerism, and Royal Bengal. Entered at Trentham Defy is the name that has been claimed for the three-year-old halfsister by Defoe to Boughal in E. Burgess’s Trentham stable. The filly, who is owned by Mr. A. J. Taggart, Petone, has been entered for one of the hack sprints at next week’s Wellington meeting. Nominations Missed Endorsement’s nominations for the Wellington meeting were missed in an unusual way. Nominations were posted at Hastings by her ownertrainer, L. D. Berry, in what would ordinarily have been sufficient time, but the letter was apparently missorted and went to Christchurch, not being returned to its proper address till last Saturday morning, the day after closing of entries. The case was considered this week by the Wellington stewards, who decided that though the mistake was not the trainer’s, the nominations could not be accepted. There is at least a moral in this incident. Owners who leave making their nominations till the last moment are always liable to find their entry missing i'f there is the slightest hiten during transit. Even the Post Office, with all its thoroughness, can make mistakes. Important Move A deputation from the New Zealand Jockeys’ Association waited on the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Racing Owners, Breders and Trainers’ Association recently to discuss the question of jockeys who do riding work regularly, but arc not given much consideration when it comes to engaging jockeys for race riding. Dr. E. H. B. Milsom, who presided, said the request appeared most reasonable, and expressed the opinion that some measure should be taken whereby jockeys would be paid for riding work. One of the deputation said the complaint was made only in the interest of those lads who never failed to attend tracks to ride work but on race day were stood aside for other rideis. Those who were receiving a fair share of race riding did not look for othei consideration for track services. Members of the Owners’ Association agreed that something should be done to relieve the position, and on the motion of Messrs. W. Grey and Max Steinberg it was decided to suggest to owners who utilise the services of jockeys regularly on the track to give the lads a percentage of race riding, or failing that to show some consideration to the riders concerned. The secretary, Mr. C. E. Craig, said during the next few weeks he would address branch meetings at Wanganui, New Plymouth, Hawera, Palmerston North and Hastings, and would •place the views of the Auckland branch before each unit with a view to making it the subject of a remit for the annual meeting in July.
