THE WEATHEE Last Night's Forecast General situation.—Anticyclones -are located east of the Dominion and over Tasmania, while between the two is an elongated depression which extends from the South Island to New South Wales. Forecast.—Winds south-easterly predominating in the south, otherwise mainly between north-east and northwest, but southerlies possibly extending temporarily as far 'north as Cook Strait, tforce strong in exposed positions, otherwise moderate. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough at times about Cook Strait and on the west coast of the South Island, moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman: Winds easterly in the northern portion, north-wes-terly in the central, and south-easterly in the southern portion; force strong in the south with rough seas, elsewhere moderate with moderate seas. Weather tair in the Auckland province, otherwise cloudy to overcast with rain at times; falls only light, however, in Canterbury and north of Nelson and Marlborough, and conditions probably improving in the southern half of the North Island. Temperatures warm in the north, cool in the south. To-day's North Island Report Temperatures throughout the North Island .were moderate at 9 a.m. to-day. Tauranga and East Cape being the only stations to record 70 degrees or more, and Cape Maria. Auckland, and Opoliki returning 09 degrees. Napier recorded 00 degrees, and Cape? Palliser 59. Gisbornc being the lowest return inn c.io, with 58 degrees. Winds of low velocity were reported by several stations, and these were mainly from the north; Tauranga. Opotiki and Napier reported calm conditions. Overcast oi' cloudy conditions were general, with Steady rain at Wellington and a drizzle at Napier. Visibility was good at all stations, ranging up to excellent at Gisborne. Seas were smooth immoderate, with the exception of Cape Palliser, where roush conditions prevailed. Midday Forecast I General Situation. —Pressure has liscn in the south, but is still relatively low over the middle portion of the Dominion and across the North Tasman Sea. Forecast. —Winds, turning to light to moderate southerly. Weather, dull, with intermittent rain. Temperatures, cool to moderate. Sea, slight to moderate.
