RESIDENCE FOR DUKE
CANBERRA EXTENSIONS WILL COST £25,000 CANBERRA, Feb. C. Extensions and alterations, costing £25,000, are being made at Government House, Canberra, in preparation for the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Kent and tneir children, who will take up residence there in November, when the Duke assumes office as Governor-General. The plans include a special kitchenette, day and night nurseries, and accommodation for the nurses who will care for the two children of the Duke and Duchess. As the Duke has expressed a desire for economy because defence is making heavy calls on Australia’s finances, a special ballroom will not be installed. Its place will be taken by a reception-room, which will be used on State occasions. The present din-ing-room, however, will be extended. Alterations to Government House are expected to be completed within the next few months. The GovernorGeneral, Lord Cowrie, will not live there while the alterations arc being made.
