NAZI REACTION
GERMANY “LEFT COLD” MEASURE OF SURPRISE DOUBTS OF POWER ITALIANS SEE THREAT (Rico, Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. March 10, 9 a.m.) . LONDON, Mar. 9. An Independent Cable Service message from Berlin states that the spokesman of the German Government, referring to the debate in the House of Commons on the British Army estimates, said that he was surprised that the Secretary of State for War, Mr. L. Hore-Belisha, had even mentioned a possible landing of troops on the Continent in view of Herr Hitler’s repeated statements that Germany has no territorial claims against France.'* He added that even the combined British and French strength was insufficient to smash Germany’s western defences. Therefore Mr. HoreBelisha's words “left Germany cold.” An Independent Cable Service message from Rome says that in Italian circles the statement by Mr. HoreBelisha ig considered as directed against Italy and Germany.
