The Postmaster-General, tlie Hon. F. Jones, announces that work on the preparation of tne centennial stamp issue is nearing completion. The designs have all proved satisfactory for engraving reproduction and the work ot printing has been commenced. The subjects featured and the denominations which will bo issued are; —

1. The landing of the Maoris; the main migration of about 1350 —£ri denomination. 2. A Maori Council, representing Maori institutions and the importance ot Maori contributions to Polynesian culture—7d denomination. Tasman’s Discovery of New Zealand, 1042—2 d denomination. 4. Captain James Cook's rediscovery of New Zealand, 1709 .Id denomination. 5. The landing of the New Zealand Company's immigrants on Petone Beach, January 22, 1840 —3d denomination. 0. The Treaty of Waitangi, 1340 2ld denomination. 7. The hoisting, of the British flag at Akaroa, August 11, 1840 —5d denomination. 8. The period of goldmining (1862) and the development of the industry—9d denomination. 9. The first overseas shipment of frozen mutton from -Port Chalmers, February 15, 1882 Od denomination. (Featuring the sailing ship Dunedin). 10 The progress ol' transport in New Zealand—4d denomination. 11. One hundred years of New Zealand history under the British Crown' —lid denomination. 12. The giant kauri—fane mahuta; symbolising the whole period of New Zealand history—ls denomination.

The subjects featured were selected after careful consideration as representing salient points in New Zealand’s historical and industrial development, and embrace in the limited scope of a set of 12 stamps all aspects of the remarkably full history the Dominion possesses. The stamps will be placed on sale at all post -Offices on January 2, 1940, and will remain on sale during the whole period _of the national celebrations. ’
