BRITAIN'S UNEMPLOYED
PLIGHT OF THOSE OVER 45 TRADES EMPLOY YOUTHS LONDON. Feb. 10. Of 289,000 Britons who have been out of work a year, 50 per cent are over 45 years old. Of Britons unemployed for five years, 70 per cent arc over 45. This problem of the elderly unemployed is one with which file Government is grappling, It has invited the Trades Union Congress and the Employers' Federation to examine more scientific methods of allocating work. Many trades are employing boys and girls when older people could till the positions.
