CONSERVATOR’S REVIEW LAST FORTNIGHT’S FISHING Reporting on the fishing conditions in the Rotorua and Taupo distiicts I n the fortnight ended March 7, the conservator of fish and game, '• Kean, stated that fairly good sport had been experienced in the nme Hamurana and the Ohau Channel had fished fairly well, one fish of 141 b. 2ox. having 'been taken at Hamurana. A limit bag was reported from Lake Tarawcra, and, although Rotoiti had been fairly hard, a few fish had been taken otT the mouth of the Wauti Stream. A fair number of fish of up to 51b. and younger trout up to 10m. in length were to be seen in the Ngongotaha Stream, while Rotoina Lake was still fishing well. Good sport had been experienced at Atiamuri, Mr. Kean proceeded, while dry fly fishing had been successful m the Waikato River below the Hukn Falls. "Rain is badly needed at the Tokaanu end of Lake Taupo to clear the rivers and bring the fish up, states the report. "Several fish nearly ready to spawn have been taken at the Delta, and a good run is expected in the rivers as soon as a fresh is experienced. “Fish taken in the Tongariro River are from 51b. to 71b. in weight. Trolling in the lake has been very hard owing to dry weather, while generally few fishermen have been operating m the district.”
