SUB-LICENSES PROPOSED

PERMITS FOE IMPOSTS

GOODS FOR OTHER PORTS

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day

With a view to avoiding the difficulties being experienced in certain cases by importers, who hold licenses covering the importation of goods for a number of ports, a slight modification in connection with the issue' of such licenses has been announced by the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. Nash.

An importer may, if he desires, on submission of the license to the collector of customs, arrange for the issue of a sub-license or sub-licenses. A similar proceeding will be followed in connection with licenses which may be issued in future covering importations from a number of ports or at all ports. Instead of being granted a single license for, say £20,000, two licenses of £IO,OOO each may be issued if this course is desired. It will be necessary to inform the collector of customs at the time of lodging the application.

Mr. Nash mentioned that several cases had come under the notice of the department where the value of the goods shown in the application had not represented the goods entered through the customs in the name of the applicant. A serious view was taken of any information furnished on the application form which would result or had resulted in a license being granted for a greater value than the applicant would be entitled to under the regulations.
