EXPORT TRADE RIVALRY
ANGLO-GERMAN FACTORIES
BERLIN TALKS PENDING (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, March 7 The proposed visits by the President of the Board of Trade, Mr. Oliver Stanley, and the Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Trade, Mr. R. S. Hudson, to Berlin, and Mr. Hudson to the northern capitals, was mentioned in the House of Commons today when Mr. Stanley emphasised the general exploratory character of the conversations they would have abroad.
Of his own visit, Mr. Stanley said: “I am going to Berlin in response to an invitation, which I have been glad to accept, to attend a dinner by the Reichsgruppe Industrie in connection with discussions with the Federation of British Industries regarding competition between individual industries of the two countries. I hope to have the opportunity to make contacts and to survey tire general problems of Anglo-German trade relations with those prominent in German economic life.”
He confirmed that his visit would be concerned only with trade and that questions of a political nature would be excluded. He denied knowledge of a suggestion that any proposals about Germany’s short-term indebtedness would be discussed during his visit. He also said that the Dominion Governments would be kept in touch with any developments from these informal exploratory discussions which seemed likely to be of interest to them.
