CONFERENCE PENDING

DOMINION AND AUSTRALIA RETICENCE IN CANBERRA WAIT FOR MR. SAVAGE (Reed. -March 9, 9 a.m.) CANBERRA, March 8. The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, declines' to comment on a cable from' London published in the Sydney Sun to-day to the effect that a defence conference between representatives of New Zealand, Australia and Britain will be held in New Zealand, probably late in March. The details were to have been announced .simultaneously by the Now Zealand Prime Minister, Mr. M. J. Savage, and Mr. Lyons but, following a radio telephone talk with Mr. Savage, Mr. Lyons said that Mr. Savage was .not yet ready to make a statement, Mr. Lyons, therefore, refused to make it. Air Marshall Sir Arthur Longmorc, head of the British air mission to Australia, stated to-day that lie had not received official advice of the proposed conference, but before he left London for Australia, there was a suggestion that such a conference might be held and that lie might bo required to attend it.
