The Picture Stealers
A FILM star's life is not always an ** easy one, for the ever-present menace in the form of picture-steal-ers is constantly there to make their career precarious. Beiore Mickey Rooney achieved stardom recently, no star was safe from his well-known gestures, which were always made with apparent disconcern but were distracting to the eye. The heavy, face and rather “dumb” expression of Nat Pendleton have endeared him to the fans, who frequently derive more enjoyment from watching slow understanding dawn on his face than watching ■ the glamorous heroine. Herman Bing, by his distinctive speech, is a sure scene-stealer, and Binnic Barnes with her delicious flair for comedy must be rated as a danger to the top-liners. “Tough-guy” Allen Jenkins has a vast following of fans who settle down contentedly in their seats whenever he appears, and Mischa Auer is another whose personality is often stronger than those whose names appear above his in the credits.
