ATTITUDE OF JAPANESE
RINGING CONCESSIONS
GUN EMPLACEMENTS
MYSTERIOUS BUILDINGS
(Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Rccd. March 8, 2.40 p.m.) LONDON, March 8.
Messages from Tientsin .state that foreigners apprehensively view the erection of impenetrable barricades of live wires around the Foreign Concessions, transforming them into virtual concentration camps and shutting off all the exits except a few main thoroughfares which are guarded by armed Japanese and Chinese police, while machine-gun emplacements dominate strategic points.
The residents, ill addition, are puzzled by the construction of mysterious brick buildings, resembling barracks, in the Japanese-controlled areas and also guard houses in the streets. The Japanese are also believed to be meditating measures hampering British shipping and road traffic.
