EMPLOYEE GASSED
INHALATION OF CHLORINE WAIP AO A RIVER. ACCIDENT •As a result of inhaling chlorine gas in connection with the .borough water supply, Mr. L. W. Patterson, Borough Council building inspector, was admitted to hospital last evening. Mr. Patterson went to the VVaipaoa River pumping plant at 6.30 p.m. yesterday to inspect the chlorinating plant there. Apparently a leak had developed in one of the chlorine gas cylinders, and Mr. Patterson inhaled some Of this. He was brought back to Gisborne immediately, and after medical attention lie was taken to hospital. Mis condition is not serious. Chlorine, a particularly dangerous gas, was the first one used by the Germans during the Great War. Mr. Patterson, however, inhaled only a small quantity, and his stay in hospital is not. expected to be of more than a few days. His condition today was reported to be satisfactory.
