SHEBPFAttMER’S L\.l UIiTES Burns to the hands and body were suffered by Mr. Claude Shaw, sheepfarmer. of Upper Otara Valley, Bay of Plenty, when this clothes caught fire while he was burning off rubbish on a hill. In moving about the hillside with a torch he slipped and fell and his clothes, which he had worn previously while spraying ragwort, became ignited and burned fiercely. Mr. Shaw suffered further burns in removing the clothing that had caught alight. His burns caused him considerable suffering while returning on horseback to his home, and he had to stop occasionally to put one of his hand*: in a stream in an endeavour to alleviate the severe pain,
