16 GIRLS TO BE CHOSEN PREPARATION FOR GAMES No country makes more detailed preparations for the Olympic Games than, the United States. In the New York Times, Miss Maureen. Orcutt, the dm!inguished golfer, who writes upon women’s sport, gives news of the Am e r ica n p rep ar a t ions. “Miss Dee Boockman, chairman of the women’s track and field Olympic committee,” she writes, “reports that three new events for women will bo added in the 1940 Games.

“These additions will be the shot put, running broad jump, and 200metre track race. This will! be the first occasion that women will compete in an Olympic 200 metres event, as it has hitherto been considered too hard for the weaker sex. For the three new events the committee will use prevailing records to decide the girls eligible.”

Miss Boeckmian also stated that 1C girls would be selected for the United States Olympic track and field team, and only those who had made records would be eligible.

The outstanding athlete is expected to be Miss Frances Sabzak, of Cleveland, who is Oft. lin. in height -and is an all-round performer.
