RIDER SUSPENDED | DEAD HORSE WON By "Trenton” When going out tor the preliminary before the Waiuku Hack Handicap at the Franklin Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, Mio Fratollo’s saddle slipped and his rider, N. R. McKenzie, was thrown. McKenzie suffered severe bruises and was unable to ride for the rest of the day. Unusual Eml to Race Wrenace, making a last desperate lunge for the finishing line in a race recently at Tropical Park, Miami, stepped into a hole and crashed as he passed the post in front of the field, breaking his leg. The crowd that lined up at the totalisator windows to collect on the six-year-old gelding scarcely heard the sound of the shot that ended Wrenace’s life. He was one of the best-backed horses in the event. Watering- Track A southern exchange states that one million gallons of water a week has been poured on to the running track at Trentham by the Wellington. Racing Club’s race track staff in an effort to provide easy going for horses taking part at the St. Leger meeting next week. The Trentham property is very dry and burned up at present, but the running track encircles the arid inside ring of gallops with a perfect ribbon of green. It is carrying a thick sole ol' grass just now and while the foundation might still be hard, the cushion of grass will provide going without jar. which will be appreciated by all trainers with horses engaged next week.
