(Klee. Tel. Copyright— United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, Mar. C. Speaking in the House of Commons to-day, the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, said that recognition of the Republican Government in Spain was withdrawn simultaneously with Britain’s announcement of its recognition of General Franco’s Nationalist regime. There could, therefore, be no diplomatic representation between Britain and the Republican administration. In the territory which was not at present under General Franco's control, the British consular oflicers would take such action as might be appropriate for the protection of British interests and for humanitarian purposes.
As far as Britain’s information showed the Republican administration was not in control of territory beyond Madrid.
