FRUIT EXPORT DECLINE
EFFECT OF DRY SPELL N ELSON I J R ODUCTION (Par Press Association.) NELSON, this day. The serious cfleet of the dry spell on the fruit-growing industry has shown a substantial drop in the export figures, compared with last year. To March 3 this year, only 45,006 cases have been shipped against 119,242 to the same date last year. After the heavy export of 968,421 cases last year, it was expected that this 'season’s production would be lighter, but the heavy falling off was mainly due to the lack of rain and the fruit not sizing up. So far 29 per cent have been smaller sizes, compared with 6 per cent last season.
