travelling, time both ways for men engaged to do building work in New Zealand may cause a hitch in the engagement of men here. Officials of the unions yesterday conferred with Mr. J. I-lodgens, the New Zealand member of Parliament who has a mission to engage skilled labour for New Zealand. Mr. Hodgens is interviewing applicants to-day.
The Melbourne Herald last slight published a letter sent from Wellington by a former resident of Melbourne warning tradesmen against the living costs in New Zealand and staling that the rent of a four-roomed ok! wooden house k) Wellington would be at least £3 a week. The writer says lie is earning £8 a week as a salesman, and advises tradesmen earning £5 in Melbourne not to go to New Zealand for less than £lO a week.
