DRAGGED INTO SCRUB
YOUNG GIRL’S STORY INCIDENT 'AT KIJATOWA (Special lo I lie Herald.) RUATORIA, this day. The screams of a 12-year-old girl coming from among scrub about a quarter of a mile from Ruatoria on the road to To Puia qn Saturday night attracted, the attention of two men, one a pedestrian and the other a neighbouring resident. They heard the screams at about 11 p.m., and on going to investigate experienced. some difficulty in locating where the .screams were coming from. As they entered the scrub they heard the gin! scream “Come quickly.”
When tney reached the girl the searchers learned, that she had been dragged there by a man, who had allegedly caught her as she was wa living home after the pictures. As a result of inquiries made by Constables J. W. Birch and V. Bagge, Ruatoria, a Maori was arrested yesterday ’ and charged, with a serious offence against the girl.
