HIGH STATUS MAINTAINED
UNITED FIRE BRIGADES WANGANUI CONFERENCE (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. This year has been very strenuous but the* standing of the United Fire Brigades' Association is higher than ever it has been, states the annual report of the executive presented to the conference which opened to-day. The president, Mr. D. L. Ferguson, Gisborne, presided. Increased business has been done at the depot, 42,500f1. of hose being purchased and distributed to the brigades with other appliances. There is (in increase of four brigades competing and 18 more teams than at the Nelson demonstration. It was hoped further to modernise the events after this demonstration. The indiscriminate use of syrens by traffic inspectors and firemen, after being called out unnecessarily, was discussed and it was decided to lake the matter up with the Transport Department.
