BRITISH REARMAMENT
FASCIST REACTION ''SHEET LIGHTNING" LONDON, Feb. 22. The Berlin paper Lokal Anzeiger says: "Our people will read with mixed feelings Mr. Neville Chamberlain's disclosure of Britain's gigantic effort to make her armaments surpass those of other countries. "His speech is a sheet-lightning display of threats and promises. The general impression is one of political shilly-shallying, which has marked the policy of the three democracies for three years." The Boersen Zeitung comments: "Mr. Chamberlain's statement that the armaments race is folly is a noteworthy concession." Newspapers in Rome draw attention with satisfaction to Mr. Chamberlain's warning to the British people not to believe every tale they hear about the aggressive intentions of foreigners. The Messaggero welcomes Mr. Chamberlain's readiness to .discuss disarmament should a favourable opportunity arise. It questions the genuineness of Anglo-American solidarity and asks whether President Roosevelt and the "Jewish-Masonic Group which surrounds him," are not in league with the British Opposition r.nd whether they do not wish to see Mr. D. Lloyd George, Mr. Anthony Eden, and "other anti-Fascists" displace Mr. Chamberlain.
