SURRENDERS OF LEASES
KANAKANAIA RENEWALS
Consequent upon the board not having met during January, the business paper before the Gisborne Land Board at its meeting to-day was heavier than usual. Included in the proposals submited were four dealing with surrenders of Crown leaseholds.
Those present were Messrs. 11. L. Primrose, commissioner of Crown lands, and chairman of the board, G. O. Donovan, A. G. Nolan, J. H. Reid. and R. H. Wicksteed.
The surrender by Mr. W. 11. Locke of his leasehold of the Crown blocks IV and VIII, Ufewera S.D., 63 acres, was accepted, and a fresh tenancy was granted Mr. W. H. Hughes, at a rental of £4 per annum. Mr. E. Richardson applied to surrender his lease of lot I, section VI. block IX, Ngatapa S.D., I acre 3 roods, the application being accepted. The -board also accepted surrender of Messrs. Smelfie and Sons' lease of section 212, suburbs of Gisborne, of 7 acres 3 roods, and that of Mr. J. Hope, lessee of GOO acres of Crown
land in blocks VII and VIII Moanui S.D., who wished to surrender 300 acres still in bush.
The question of the re-disposal of sections 2,3, 4, and 5, block XVI, Hangaroa S.D., an area of 3184 acres, was considered, and it was decided to classify the area as third-class land, and that sections be offered for selection on small grazing run tenure, at annual rentals of £l3O. The commissioner was empowered to deal with any applications received for the property. A temporary tenancy of sections 1 to 1(3, block XVI, Tolaga Bay township, four acres, was transferred to Mr. W. E. Prince, at a rental of £2. A temporary tenancy of section 8, block IV, Waioeka S.D., 1209 acres, was granted to Mrs. F. F. Mead, fbr three .months at 10s per month. Kanakanalia. Leaseholds
The iield inspector, Mr. Brcwn, was appointed appraiser in respect of the application of Mr. C. S. Corlett for renewal of his leasehold over section 1, block X, Waingaromia S.D., (Kanakanaia settlement), 974 acres.
Similar action was taken in respect of the application of Mr. Murdo McDonald for renewal of his leasehold over section 4, block X, Waingaromia S.D., (.Kanakanaia settlement), 745 acres; and also in respect of the following further applications for renewals;—Mr. Arthur Henderson, lease of section .'», block X, Waingaromia, area 725 acres; Mrs. Mary A. Hood, lease of lots 1 and 2, section 2, block X, Waingaromia S.D., area 9GO acres; Mr. Angus A. Fraser, lease of section 5. block XIII, Waingaromia, area 985 acres; Mr. J. C. Wilson, lease of section 7, block XIV, Waingaromia S.D., 055 acres; Mrs. Alice Wilson, lease of section C, block XIV, Waingaromia S.D., area 239 acres.
The board approved the transfer from Mr. Herbert Cooper lu Mr. Leonard Grey of section 32, block 1. Turanganui S.D., area 55 acres.
