CARNIVAL PROGRAMMES

THIRTY-THOUSAND CLUB BEACH ENTERTAINMENTS PARIS FOR NEXT WEEK Several bright entertainments have been arranged by the executive oi the Gisborne Thirty-Thousand Club in connection with a beach carnival at the Waikanae Beach and the physical fitness campaign. As a preliminary to the main fixtures of the campaign .starting next Saturday, the club has arranged for promenade entertainments to be given from the concert platform' at the Waikanae Beach on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. With a view to having something new to place before the public of Gisborne the executive of the club has gone to much trouble with the programmes. On the Wednesday evening the fare will be made up of bright and varied entertainment sections, including 20 minutes of novelty bv a visitor to the district.

Next Thursday evening the members of the Gisborne Musicians Union has agreed to present a programme in which four bands will take part.

A procession will leave the post office vi 1/ 7.-0 p.m. next Saturday and (finish ■;'. the beach. The interhouse girls' teams will start the beach programme with a combined earn displ- • uuaer tne direction of Mr. R. O. Blackwell, the Y.M.C.A. physical instructor who recently arrived from Canada. During the -veiling the Mayor. Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., will present the Challenge Shield and trophies won by the teams at the recent inter-house sports meeting on the Childers Road Reserve, and also declare open the Gisborne ifitness campaign. A special fireworks display has been arranged for the evening. For the week of the campaign several entertainment .sections have been arranged and on Saturday, February 25, the club will conclude the campaign with a carnival programme on the beach, following another procession. On the Saturday evenings of the campaign a small charge will be made for admission to the beach, but on other nights no charge will be made to the public, with the exception of fees for the parking of cars.
