MR. J. W. B. MACDONALD

Tlie death occurred at his residence- in King street, Wairoa. on Sunday morumg, of a prominent resident, Mr. J. w. B. Macdonald, J.l J .. at the aye of U 3 years.

Mr. Macdonald was born at Auld Reekie, Edinburgh, and as an infant went to Otago with /his parents, his father becoming rector of the. Otago Boys' High School. After leaving school Mr. Macdonald ■ entered the firm of Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Company, in Dunedin, but for health reasons "came to the North Island at the age of 18. After his marriage to Miss Jessie Macpherson, Hawke's Bay, Mr. Macdonald settled in Wairoa, where he had resided for 33 years. He worked on the late Mr. Hunter Brown's station at Whakaki and Tunara, and later managed Waireka station.

Mr. Macdonald then joined the stall' of the Hawke's Bay Fanners' Cooperative Association, and on the resignation of the late Mr. A. T. Rainbow, became manager. Two years ago Mr. E. L. Thomson became associated with Mr. Maclonald in the nanageinent of the Wairoa branch. He had been in the firm's employ for 2!! years.

Mr. Macdonald took an active interest in the district, was a well-known figure in sport, especially bowls, and did fine service as treasurer of the Wairoa A. and P. Society.

Besides his widow, Mr. Macdonald leaves two sons, Mr. Hector Macdonald, Wairoa, and Mr. Keith Macdonald, Whaitirinui, Mohaka, a sister, Mrs Harold Norme'n, Wellington, and three brothers, Dr. Marshall Macdcnalcl, Wellington, Mr. Ernest Macdonald, Timaru. and Mr. James Macdonald Salisbury. Rhodesia. The funeral took place yesterday at the Wairoa cemetery, the service 'at the graveside being conducted by the Rev 'N. H. Finch. The cortege was a lengthy one. all the local bodies and societies with which Mr. Macdonald iad been connected being represented in the mourners which followed the casket to its last resting place.
