CRICKET TEST HOURS
AUSTRALIAN OPINIONS LONDON REACTIONS (Reed. Dec. 31, 10.a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 30. The cricket writer of the Daily Herald says it is difficult .to criticise Australia's refusal of 30-hour tests- as they have, found the games without a limit an unqualified success.
"The English request is ill-timed and should have been made before, instead of after the last tour;" continues the article. "The Australian board is more democratic than Marylebone." He gives as an example the inviting of Bradman to submit a report on the tour and discuss conditions for the next.
The Daily Mail particularly draws attention to the Australian complaints that tours are over-strenuous. It says that these are not taken seriously, firstly as the English county teams are almost equally busy playing 28 games compared with 34 by the Australians. The Daily Mail says that unless.this is understood the Australians will get a lot of false sympathy. It adds that the hard-labour angle is overemphasised. The Australians are actually professionals, according to English slandards, and should show fellow feeling for their brother professionals in England. If they ,want reduced fixtures they should eliminate some of the festival university matches.
