BUTTER-FAT YIELD

TARANAKI RECORD COWS GREAT PRODUCTION Producing 17,6501 b. of milk and 9061 b. of butter-fat in 305 days and then carrying on to complete the full 365 days with approximately 19,9451 b. of milk and 10241 b. of butterfat, Cyrilla's Twylish Girl, owned by Mr. E. J. Clough, of the Pinecrest stud, Inglewood, has broken all New Zealand records for the 305 days' test and easily displaces another Taranakiowned cow, Meon Lucullia, the previous mature class leader in the 30:5 days' test with 7411 b. of fat.

The performance is all the more remarkable because she started her test when 11 years 83 days old and calved very soon after the completion of her test. The test was put up on twice-n----day milking by hand. The cow was grazed as usual with test cows, and the only concentrate given was meal mixed with bran in varying amounts according to the season. With the exception of the final two or three closing months of the test, Cyrilla's Twylish Girl headed the merit list, eacn month Her average daily milk yield was 54.731 b., with an average test of 5.155.

While the yield of 10241 b. of fat put up by Cyrilla's Twylish Girl has been beaten on four previous occasions, three times by Taranaki-bred cows and is 1961 b". lower than the record ol 1220 891 b. of fat established by the famed Woodlaids Felicie, her milk production of 19.9401 b. is nearly 15001 b. greater than that of the previous highest milk producer.
