Forecast: Winds, light southerlies at first, in the far north, otherwise northerlies to north-westerlies prevailing and becoming strong in places south of New Plymouth and Napier, a change to southerlies advancing over the South Island during to-morrow. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate but rising on the West Coast. Eastern Tasman; North-westerly winds, strong in the central and southern portions, moderate in the northern, a change to southerlies advancing from the west; seas rough in the central and southern portions, slight to moderate in the northern. Weather: Cloudy fo overcast and with intermittent rain inwestern and southern districts of the South Island; elsewhere fair at first but rain gradually extending to most of the country, more especially, however. the South Island aid western districts of the North. Temperatures moderate, but a cool change later. To-dgy’s North Island Report A fall in barometer readings was reported' ifrom most North Island stations this .morning, compared with yesterday's, and temperatures generally were higher, running to 73 degrees at Napier, 71 degrees at Gisborne, and 67 degrees at Cape Maria ' and Opotik'i, with other stations ranging down to 60 at Wellington. Winds were from the north or northwest generally, and from the west at Cape Maria, Tauranga and Napier, the force ranging from a light air at Tauranga to a strong breeze at Gisborne. At several stations t‘he skies. 1 were, overcast and hazy, but visibility* was generally good. Seas were calm, at. Cape Maria. Tauranga, O.putiki, Gisbeme ahd Napier, and moderate at Castle-point, while at Cape Palliser thev were very rough. Only one station, Wellington, reported a trace of vain overnight. Midday Forecast General situation.—A rather deep westerly depression is crossing the Dominion, pressure being low to the rauth while remaining high to the north. There-has been a rapid rise eg pressure over eastern Australia. Forecast. Moderate to strong north-west to westerly winds, changing to south-west Within about 24 hours. Weather mainly fair to cloudy at first, but some rain probable in the western ranges and later extending to scattered parts of eastern areas.
