AUCKLAND WASTE LANDS
GOVERNMENT PROJECT TRANSFER OF WORKERS (Por press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Plans to bring 'into cultivation large areas of waste lands in the Auckland province under the Government developmental programme were revealed bv the Minister of Labour, the 1-lon. P. C, Webb, in an interview today. Mr. Webb said that early in the new year important changes, involving the transfer of men from public works and special employment works, would be considered by the Cabinet. The Government would also make vigorous efforts to stimulate production in the manufacturing industries. More craftsmen would be trained lor now trades and young men would be employed in directions where they would be assisted to become fanners. Mr. Webb indicated that No. 1J scheme would be thoroughly reviewed with the object of transferring men to avenues of permanent production. Something which would provide for the seasonal ebb and (low in production would be necessary to take the place of that scheme. The Government was conscious of the necessity of increasing the population m order to bring about an expansion of secondary industries which was essential if those industries were to be more extensively prosecuted. A more balanced form, of production was essential to remove the weaknesses of the Dominion's economic system.
