THE WEATHER Last Night's Forecast General Situation: Pressure is rising very slowly over New Zealand, an anti-cyclone being located over the western Tasman and moving slowly eastward. A tropical cyclone is centred between Fiji and Tonga and is moving south-east. Forecast: Winds south-west to southerly, strong at first in some exposed positions over the North Island but, for trie most part, light to moderate. Seas: In New Zealand waters rather rougb at first bn the West Coast, but decreasing and, elsewhere, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman: Light to fresh south-west to southerly winds, and rather rough but moderating seas. Weather: Scattered local rains still probable, more especially from the Wellington province southwards, With thunder and hail in places, but fair to line practically generally to-mor-row. Temperatures: Cool, but rising to-morrow. / To-day's North Island Report Blue skies were reported north of Gisborne this morning, but overcast conditions prevailed further south the North Island, with light rain at Wellington. Moderate to fresh southwesterly breezes were general. The barometer showed little movement. Temperatures at 9 o'clock were: Auckland and East Cape 69 degrees, Tauranga and Opotiki 57, Gisborne 58, Napier 63, arid Wellington 51. Rough seas were reported at Wellington and Cape Campbell: elsewhere moderafe or smooth. Midday Forecast General Situation: Under the influence of the tropical depression, which is now centred north of the Kermadeg Islands, there has been some fall of pressure in the norlli, but in the south it has continued to rise slowly. An anticyclone of slight intensity is located over the Tasman Sea.
