DUKE OF KENT'S ESCAPE

OAR SKID IN LONDON ACCIDENT AVERTED LONDON, Nov. 29. The Duke of Kent narrowly escaped a serious accident when driving his car along the Great West road to London. He was attempting to avoid a lorry that appeared from a side turning. The Duke of Kent swerved violently, causing the car to skid. He pulled up to await Lord and Lady Herbert Scott, who were following in anolher car and who saw the incident. The Daily Telegraph states that Lord Herbert Scott, who is the Duchess of Gloucester’s uncle, got out and spoke to the Duke of Kent. After a few minutes the Duke of Kent started the car again. The Daily Sketch says: “The Duke of Kent skidded clear of the lorry while travelling at 70 miles an hour. Pale and shaken, the Duke pulled up at the kerb and waited for Lord and Lady Herbert Scott.” Lord Herbert Scott, when interview, ed, said: “Nine out of 10 drivers would have had a ghastly crash. The Duke of Kent’s decisive swerve was a piece of magnificent driving."
