FOR THE CENTENNIAL
HOSTEL FOR 750 PEOPLE
WELLINGTON SHOW SITE
The Wellington City Council lias completed arrangements to take over the Wellington Show building and grounds in John street and run them as a hostel, car-park and motor camp for visitors to the centennial celebrations in Wellington during 1939-40. Accommodation for at least 750 people will be provided. Prolonged negotiations between the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, and Sir Charles Norwood, president of the Wellington Show Association, have ended in an agreement that the city should lease the building and grounds, except for the basement, which is used as a rifle range. Although the subject has not yet been discussed by the City Council or the directors of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company, it is thought likely that the show premises will be handed on to the exhibition company to administer or sub-let to a subsidiary syndicate at its discretion.
