OBITUARY

MISS M. A. ADAIR OLD GISBORNE RESIDENT The death occurred last evening at her residence, G 1 Stout street, of an old Gisborne resident in the person of Miss Margaret Annie Adair, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Adair, who were among Gisborne’s pioneers. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Adair came to Gisborne in 1875, and Mr. Adair held for many years the post of wharfinger at Gisborne. The family residence was at Bright street, where Mr. Adair died 25 years ago, at an advanced age, his widow surviving him by 10 years. Miss Margaret Annie Adair, whose birth followed shortly after the arrival of her parents in Gisborne, was of a most lovable disposition, and was one of the most popular of the older generation of Gisborne people. Of gentle manners and deep religious conviction, she was a pillar of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and was especially interested in the mission activity of the congregation. Her illness was brief, but her relatives were prepared for her passing, as her strength failed rapidly during the past fortnight.

The-funeral will take place to-mor-row, leaving Miss Adair’s late residence after a short service at 2 p.m for Taruheru cemetery.

Surviving members of the late Mr. Henry Adair’s family comprise Messrs. T. J. Adair, Harry Adair, and John Adair, the last-named being resident at Wellington; and Mcsdames J. S. Allan and Geo. Witters. One other member of the family, Mr. Charles Adair, died several years ago
