BOXING PROMOTION

MATCH FOR G. ALLEN CHRISTCHURCH NEXT WEEK J. FOSTER AS OPPONENT The Poverty Bay professional middleweight boxer, George Allen, who last week suffered defeat in a title match in Timaru, his opponent on that occasion toeing Cliff Hanham, is to have a further contest this month. He has been signed to meet Johnny Foster, Canada, in Christchurch on October 19. , Allen gained the middleweight title a few months ago when he defeated Stan Jenkin, knocking out the former title-hblder in short order. He subsequently fought Hanham in a nontitle match, and gained a points victory, though many spectators considered that Hanham had shaded him. The Timaru association, under which Hanham has been developed, arranged a second match between the local bo.v and Allen, and on that occasion Hanham scored a fairly convincing victory.

When he held the championship, Allen indicated that he did not propose to lose any opportunities of fighting, and now that he is a contender again, he is anxious to meet all-comers to prove his right to another shot at the premiership of the middleweight class.
