STATE PURCHASE MADE GISBORNE DEVEL< >I\U ENT PART OP WAIKANAE BLOCK Further substantial development of the, State housing activities in Gis■borne is foreshadowed by advice received by Mr. D. W. Coleman. M.P., this morning regarding a large purchase of land for building sites in this centre. "I am pleased to inform you that final arrangements have been made for the purchase from the Education Department of land for GO houses in the Waikanae block, Gisborne," is the text of a telegram received by the district member from Mr. J. A. Lee, M.P., Parliamentary Under-Secretary for State Housing. The block is part of what was known as the Riperata estate, and the Education Department acquired a large portion o" the land Tor schoolbuilding purposes. Part of the land, adjoining the Oval, will be the site of the new intermediate school in Gisborne. The subdivision of the balance of the blcc'r for housing will mark a big step forward in the progress of the town.
