HIGHER MEAT PRICES

BUTCHERS IN DUNEDIN BEEF VALUES SOAR HIGHEST SINCE THE AVAR (Pur Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. From Friday morning the price of all sorts of meat will be raised by butchers, this action, it i.s stated by the Dunedin Master Butchers Association, having been made necessary as a result of the high prices raid at the Burnside stock sale where, for the past two or three weeks, the yardings have been small and bidding, in consequence, exceptionally keen, and as a result also of the extremely low prices received for hides, sheepskins and taljow. Beef to-day reached a level not experienced since the wartime, the best duality ox beef making Gtis per 1001 b., while the next quality was worth 00s. Heifer beef was fully as dear as the best ox and even cow beef went to 50s per 1001 b. Mutton also increased in value and will ,as is the case with beet, be Id per pound dearer in the shops from Friday, while pork will sell at Is 2d per pound, compared with Is Id which has ruled lately.
