OVATION FOR SPEAKER

REPEATED CHEERING MR, DOIUGE AT 'WAHAROA One of the largest political meetings held in Waharoa for many years was addressed by Mr. F. W. Doidge. National candidate for Tauranga. It was also one of the most enthusiastic meetings of Mr. Doidge's campaign. The candidate was received with loud applause on entering the hall. Throughout his speech he was frequently applauded, although there was opposition from a small section of the audience. At the close of the address the audience rose to its feet and gave cheers for the speaker, for the National Party and a third round of cheers for its leader, the Hon. A. Hamilton. Mr. Doidge said that up to polling day the National Party would go on trying to force Mr. Savage and all Government candidates to a definite pronouncement of policy regarding the country quota. Mr. Savage had so far ' failed to give an answer. The farmer was alive to the fact that if the counj try quota went it would mean political serfdom for all time.

A vote of thanks to the speaker and confidence in him, not only as future member, but also as one destined to .play a high part in the counsels of his party and country, was carried with applause which lasted several minutes. A member of the small band of hecklers present sought to make himself heard during this period, but his words were completely drowned by repeated cheers.
