DENIAL BY BENES
ELECTION NOMINATION GLASGOW UNIVERSITY (Reed. Oct. 12, 2 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 11. Although the university authorities fully believed that the former President of Czechoslovakia, Dr. E. Benes, had accepted nomination, Dr. Benes has advised the Czech Legation that he has not accepted and had not even considered nomination as a candidate in the Glasgow University rectorial election to be held on October 22. Previously it had been reported that Dr. Benes had agreed to stand as a Scottish Nationalist candidate and that he had consented to nomination as representing the principle of the right of the small democratic nations to order their own affairs. The election is to be held on October 22. Other candidates are: Sir Archibald Sinclair (Liberal), Mr. Laurence Housman (Pacifist), and Sir Henry Lunn (Distributist).
