TRACK AND STABLE

P-TAYPAY MATED WINNING RIVAL'S SUCCESS ADVERTISEMENT POT? STRK By "Trenton" Advice has been received by Wright. Stephenson and Co., Ltd., that the brood mare. Maypay, who was purchased at the dispersal sale of Mr. .1. J. Corry's bloodstock in Blenheim

<>:i behalf of t'ne late Captain .John Crawford, of tiie British Bloodstock Agency Limited, produced a colt foal on May 1 last to the service of Phaleron Bay. Maypay had a colt foal in New Zealand to the service of Lord Warden and the youngster was sold last January in the yearling sales on behalf of the late Captain Crawford, being purchased by J. T. Jamieson for 400 guineas. Maypay was kept empty that season but was eventually mated according to English time with. Phaleron Bay of whom the late Captain Crawford had a very high opinion.

The first crop of yearlings sired by Phaleron Bay will come up for sale m January next and are likely to create very keen interest. It was Captain Crawford's intention after the mare had been mated in New Zealand lo ship her to New York and. after foaling there, he intended to have her mated with a son of Black Toney and then shipped with her progeny to England. This arrangement is now being carried out and Maypay will shortly ai rive in England. The mare is a full-sister to the good performer, Autopay, who is now at the stud in Auckland. Yearlings by him will also figure in the next National Sales catalogue. Fine Advertisement The Blanclford horse, Bulandshar. received a line advertisement this week in the successful debut of two of his daughters—Winning Rival, at Dunedin, and Nora Gregor, at Hastings. Both scored very easily. A southern critic says that Winning Rival's winning effort in the McLean Stakes had ot be seen to be appreciated. She was nervous when being saddled up, but once lined up she behaved well, and 'began very smartly. With the pair in front of her going at top speed entering on the final furlong, it appeared almost impossible for her to get near them, but with a remarkable burst, she smothered them for speed in the last few strides. Fe Hero's Waywardness There are many who consider that if Te Hero could overcome his waywardness he would quickly establish his supremacy among the three-year-olds. These supporters must have received another nasty jar to their loyalty last Saturday, when Te Hero, second favourite for the Great Northem Guineas, failed to leave the mark. His followers will probably dwindle in number, but his brilliance remains unimpaired, and it now remains to be seen whether he will reinstate himself at Trentham, where he will be against the best in New Zealand. If he does leave the mark his contest with Defaulter will be worth seeing. They did not meet as two-year-olds. i'renlham Tracks Busy Trentham tracks are busier at present than they have been for months. There is no doubt that the Trentham centre will make its presence felt before long as the wet winter has been mainly the cause of the poor opening to the season tor horses from Trentham. Even with the scattered rain recently, the tracks are still able to afford fairly fast going and are improving every day.
