P.B. REPRESENTATIVES PROVISIONAL SELECTION CHALLENGES MUST P.E MET Members of the executive of the Gisborne Boxing Association at a meeting last evening adopted the provisional selection of representatives for this district at the annual amateur championship tournament, to be held next month in Gisborne. The nominees, who must be prepared to meet challengers at a district tournament to be conducted on August 20, are as under:— Heavyweight (no limit). — J. Jensen. Light-heavyweight (limit 12.7).—A. Wilkins. Middleweight (limit 11.6). —R. Hadwen. Welterweight (limit 10.7>. —D Heeney. Lightweight (limit 9.9).—N. Davy. Featherweight (limit 9.0). —W. Shaskey. Bantamweight (limit 8.6). —T. Baty. Flyweight (limit 8.0).—M. Quinn. The Gisborne association had intended to conduct its next tournament on August 11, but tho fixture will be held now on August 20, an announcement regarding a professional bout for that date being now under consideration. The amateur preliminaries will include challenge matches, and those wishing to challenge are to notify the secretary of their intentions by Thursday next. The committee calls attention to the v/eighti rule (in tho TVc'w Zealand championship by-laws, which stipulates that competitiors' shall weigh in on each day on which bouts arc held, and not earlier than four hours prior to the time of the first bout. No competitor who is overweight will be allowed to compete, though an opportunity to draw the weight will be given at the ringside.
