ROAD ACCESS PROBLEM
LAND DETERIORATING APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT The engineer reported to the Whakatane County Council meeting this week that the cost of improving Ferguson’s track to give road access to several settlers in the Wainui Hill country was estimated at £BOO. Mr. McCready said that something should be done to give access to a large area of good land which was deteriorating. It should be treated as a national undertaking, otherwise it would become a nursery for ragwort It was resolved that representations be made to the Minister of Lands, th*» Hon. F. Langstone, pointing out that owing to lack or road access for the transport of fertilisers, valuable country (was deteriorating .substantially. The council considered the matter of financing the cost of providing access roads was beyond its means, and was one of national importance, warranting State action.
