The Mayor of Wairoa. Mr. H. L. Harlcer. is visiting WellingtonSpecial.

Dr W V Searlc. of Harley street. London, and formerly of Oamaru, has been appointee? an honorary surgeon to the Chelsea Hospital, London.

Mr. W. Marshall, Paeroa, has been elected president of the New Zealand County Councils’ Industrial Union ol Employers and representative of the union on the advisory board of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation.

Mr. G. J. M. Best has been appointed to succeed the late Mr. C. F. Warren as general manager of the Prudentfed Assurance Company, Limited, for Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Best has been assistant general manager -since 1930.

Mr. G. D. Kearney, manager of the Woodville Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, for the past four years, who previously managed the North Tiraumea factory for 11 years, has been appointed manager of the Greytown Dairy Company.

Messrs. J. Leach and P. Ku'tia, members of the 1938 Maori All Black team chosen from the Gisborne district, left Gisborne this morning for Wanganui. The team will play one game in Wanganui on Saturday and leave New Zealand next Tuesday on its tour of Fiji. The two Gisborne players were met last evening ! by members of the management committee of the Poverty Bay 'Rugby Union and presented with a fountain pen each as a small token from the Rugby players of the district.
