“Careers for Wives" Theme
ftNE of the problems which is always providing argument for feminists— careers for wives—is the theme of “The First Hundred Years, starring Robert Montgomery and Virginia Bruce. The film probably takes its title from the old quip about marriage that “the first 10—or seven—or five years (whichever figure is preferred) are the worst,” and underscores its scheme by making the wife earn more money than the .-husband. It is a problem which is not infrequently encountered in modern life, and’ it would be interesting to know whether husbands and wives in real life, who find themselves in the same situation as did David and Lynn Conway, also find the same solution.
