TIDEWAITER IN FORM

NEW PLYMOUTH RUNNERS HORSES FOR THE SOUTH NED CUTTLE RAN WIDE (By “Trenton”) Tidewaiter appears to be right back to his best form. His win at New Plymouth on Saturday was the easiest of the day. He moved into a good position at will and in the last two furlongs drew out from the field. The fact that Ihe hurdler Iddo was second does not make the form look very good, but Iddo is fit and seasoned and ran one of the best races he has run on the fiat. Tidewaiter is engaged at the C.J.C. meeting next week, and if the going is soft at Riccarton that will not be against him. Sterling Race Clessamor looks in good order and is liable to be dangerous in the spring. He ran a sterling race on Saturday and might have troubled Winsome Lu, who won the Kaitoke Handicap, had he escaped trouble in the early part of the race. Stopped Badly Lack of stamina lost Lady Callaghan the steeplechase. She had a great lead, and even after crossing the last fence seemed assured of victory, but she stopped so rapidly that Red Mint, who was a very tired horse, overhauled and beat her. On this showing Lady Callaghan should find it difficult to win when the opposition is stronger than it was on Saturday, as is likely to be the case. Ned Cuttle Ned Cuttle ran a good race in the Otaka Handicap and but for running very wide on the home turn he might have won. Certainly he would have troubled Orac, who scored comfortably, but was the only one to beat him. If Ned Cuttle is taken to Riccarton he should run well. Should Do Well It has not taken Middle long to win since being put to hurdling, and his display on Saturday suggests that ho will do really well at his new branch of the game. He is capable of lumping a fair weight and stays on better than the average hack.
