BARRY CUP CHALLENGE
REFERRED TO H.B. UNION WAIROA SIM’.-UNI ON ACTS (Special to the Herald.) WA'IROA, this day. It was decided at a meeting of the management committee ot the Wa.Lroa Rugby Sub-Union on Tuesday evening to refer the matter in connection with Wairoa’s prior challenge against East Coast fqr the Barry Cup to the Hawke’s Bay union and request it to take the matter up. The VVairoa sub-union desires an explanation why its challenge, which had been forwarded prior to Poverty Bay’s, had not been accepted. A letter was received from the headmaster of the Wairoa School stating that owing to sickness amongst the pupils, Wairoa would not be entering a team for the Ross Shield competition this season. A decision was reached that owing to numerous postponements through bad weather and there having been no senior games in Wairoa since July 9, it was considered players would not be able to do themselves justice and the sub-union was reluctantly compelled to forgo its return match with Poverty Bay in the meantime. It was decided to write to To Aute College with a view to arranging a mid-week game with Wairoa. The following draw has been announced for Saturday:— Seniors. —Pirates v. Old Boys, Wairoa No. 1 ground, 2.45 p.m.; Nuhaka, a bye. Juniors. —Kore Kore v. Waiau, Wairoa No. 2 ground, 1.30 p.m.: Druids v. Waikaremcana, Wairoa Ho. 2 ground, 2.45 p.m.: Pirates v. Nuhaka. Wairoa No. 1 ground, 1.30 p.m.; Old Bovs, a bye.
